NNEDV Head Sue Else Earns $500K to Flaunt the Law (nnedvfinance@nnedv.org)
Sue Else is president of the National Network to End Domestic Violence. According to the NNEDV’s 2008 tax return, Else was entitled to the following amounts:
Base compensation:         $267,870
Deferred compensation: $154,750
Nontaxable benefits:       $26,917
So her annual compensation package totals out to $449,537 – nearly half a million dollars!
In 2008, the NNEDV received $1.7 million dollars from the federal government, mostly under the Violence Against Women Act.
Receipt of federal money obligates an organization to abide by non-discrimination requirements, which state: “No person in any State shall on the ground of race, color, religion, national origin, or sex be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under or denied employment in connection with any programs or activity funded in whole or in part with funds made available under this chapter.†http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/split/42usc3789d.htm
But the NNEDV has just put out an announcement about the 2nd World Conference of Women’s Shelters that will be a “part of a global effort to end violence against women.”
That sounds pretty discriminatory. And what would hard-pressed taxpayers say if they knew the director of high-flying “non-profit” organization was raking in a half-million dollar compensation package?
