Calif. Sexual Assault Team Involved in Obstruction of Justice — Twice
Four years ago, District Attorneys in San Jose, CA discovered the Sexual Assault Response Team at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center had failed to hand over 3,000 videotaped exams of suspected victims of sexual assault.
In at least one case, the videotapes contained evidence that exonerated the defendant. Following discovery of the tapes, Augustin Uribe, sentenced to 38 years to life, was allowed to go free.
But apparently the ladies at the hospital’s Sexual Assault Response Team didn’t learn their lesson.
This past week, the Mercury News reported yet another case of obstruction of justice, this time involving the failure of the Sexual Assault team to disclose the existence of hundreds of intake forms. The forms are important because they can reveal inconsistencies in accusers’ statements and allow innocent defendants to go free.
To complain to hospital administrators for allowing its employees to blithely stand in the way of justice, call 408-885-4164.
