The Economic Stimulus Bill: $325 Million and 12 Months Later
On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The Act was intended to create “shovel-ready†jobs to put unemployed Americans back to work and restore America’s decaying infrastructure.
But $325 million of the stimulus package ended up going to unaccountable domestic violence programs that often foster false allegations, break up families, rob men of their assets, endanger their careers, and place single-parent children on welfare.
When President Obama signed his economic stimulus bill, the unemployment rate stood at 8.5%. Twelve months later, the jobless rate has jumped to 10.6%. Men working in the construction and manufacturing industries have been especially hard hit – that’s why they’re calling it a “man-cession.â€Â
Pumping $325 million into the DV industry is not the only reason for the rise in the number of jobless Americans, but no doubt it has contributed to the problem. A listing of the DV agencies that received stimulus money can be seen here: http://www.ovw.usdoj.gov/recovery-awards.htm
